What we do

Macheo helps vulnerable children and their families in the slums and rural areas around Thika, Kenya. Every child is different. That is why we tailor our support to each child’s specific needs, helping build a strong foundation for the future.

Our approach

Tailored intervention sets for vulnerable children

Macheo supports vulnerable children through a tailored set of cost-effective interventions that address their individual needs and underlying root causes. We use a holistic framework covering psychosocial wellbeing, health, education, nutrition, shelter, care and protection, while also addressing family and societal root causes. Whenever possible, interventions are executed in partnership with local communities and authorities.

Focus on children with the highest vulnerability

We are confronted daily with the fact that so many children around us have unmet needs. Unfortunately, our resources will always be limited and never sufficient to meet all of these needs, making it difficult to help everyone. To maximize our impact, our approach focuses on children with the highest vulnerability: children in their first 1,000 days and adolescent girls.

Data driven approach and impact measurement

Macheo places a strong focus on data and impact by systematically collecting and using field data to understand needs, track interventions, and measure outcomes. Using mobile applications for field staff we obtain structured, real-time data in practice which helps us gain deeper insight into root causes and program effectiveness, allowing us to continuously improve decision-making, targeting, and resource allocation, and ultimately maximize impact for every child we support.
