Macheo was founded in 2005 on the initiative of two Dutch people: Marnix Huis in ‘t Veld and Maureen Kromowirjo. They quit their jobs to start working as volunteers in an existing children’s home in Kenya.
Macheo, which means ‘Sunrise’ in Kiswahili, helps children in the slums and rural areas around Thika, Kenya.
